Founded in 1882 by Jigoro Kano, the sport of Judo focuses around throwing one's opponent to the ground, as well as pins and submissions.  Traditional Samurai fighting evolved into this style of grappling, which quickly spread around the world.  Although not extensively trained in the USA, Judo is practiced by 40 million people across the globe - making it one of the most widely trained combat sports.

In 1964 Judo was introduced to the Olympic Games.

Let's Get Started ➜

At Triangle Academy, we heavily incorporate Judo into our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program & curriculum.  Although not taught as a standalone class, we place great emphasis on the extensive grip-fighting and takedowns of Judo.  Our Head Coach Clay Mayfield is a Level 1 Certified Instructor under Jimmy Pedro & Travis Stevens, at Pedro's Judo Center.

Jimmy Pedro is a 2x Olympic Bronze Medalist, Judo World Champion, and was the head coach of the USA Olympic Judo team for many years. Every Olympic medalist in US history has been his student, including such greats as Ronda Rousey, Travis Stevens and Kayla Harrison.  Travis Stevens, perhaps the greatest male judoka ever produced by the USA, is a 3x Olympian and Olympic silver medalist, as well as BJJ black belt under John Danaher.

Both Jimmy and Travis visit Triangle Academy individually each year for weekend camps, instructing our students and coaches.
